The Cave
Located on Fraternity Row, the Cave is a meeting and event space for registered student organizations (RSOs). Originally called the Student Organization Lodge, planning for The Cave began in 2020 with involvement from members of the Richmond College Student Government Association and the Westhampton College Government Association. Construction took place during the 2021–22 academic year, along with a student naming contest for the space—The Cave was selected as the name for the facility.
Features of The Cave
The Cave is a large multipurpose space for meetings or events with moveable furniture to meet the needs of the RSO reserving the space. The indoor capacity for The Cave is 150 people. The Cave is an eligible space for student organizations to host events with alcohol.
The Cave has several distinctive features:
- Outdoor patio with cafe lights and built-in speakers
- A garage door connecting the indoor space with the outdoor space
- Full audio-visual capabilities including built-in speakers throughout the space, projector, Solstice wireless presentation, HDMI connection cables, and one-touch Bluetooth connection to enabled devices
- A catering kitchen featuring
- Ice maker
- Microwave
- Dishwasher
- Commerical-size refrigerator
- Commerical-size freezer
- Warming appliance in order to keep food trays safe and warm
- Moveable furniture including tables and chairs that can be rearranged or placed in a storage closet
- Mural designed and installed by a local Richmond artist
- A seating area with couch and chairs (note: the seating area should not be moved and cannot be stored)
The Cave has three gender inclusive single-use restrooms and is fully ADA accessible.
Groups may not use the following items inside The Cave:
- Anything with an open flame (candles, torches, etc)
- Foam, fog, or other machines that produce vapor, liquid, or smoke
- Any other items that could damage the floor, walls, furniture, or equipment inside or outside the building
Reserving The Cave and Access
Only registered student organizations (without already dedicated space) are able to reserve The Cave. Access to The Cave is restricted to those who reserve it through the Event Management System (EMS) and the Event Registration Form in Presence. A swipe card for The Cave can be checked out from the Tyler Haynes Commons Information Desk.
Any setup for meetings or events within The Cave are responsiblity of the RSO who reserved the space. RSOs are also responsible for returning the space to its original confirguration, ensure the garage door is closed and locked, counters and tables are wiped clean, and any trash is placed into appropriate waste containers at the end of their event.
